Poland: dispute over hydropower plant on the Vistula near Siarzewo – knowledge

Not much is going on in Siarzewo. Two farm dogs bark behind the dike, seagulls stand in the air, carried by the wind that sweeps over the Vistula, and with every step along the bank, butterflies puff up – red peacock eyes sitting on the embankment. 225 people live in the Polish village between Poznan and Warsaw, none of them can be seen. But the place is at the center of a heated debate. Because a new hydropower plant is to be built here for around one billion euros, the largest in the country.
