He became a superstar with the Beatles. Now Paul McCartney lets us look into his head in a podcast. And shows how he writes songs.

Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney gives insights into his creative songwriting processes in a new podcast series. The 81-year-old superstar teamed up with the Northern Ireland-born poet and Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Muldoon (72). Together they talk about the genesis of each song in 24 episodes entitled “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics”.

The first episode, which was released on October 4th, is about how the Soviet Union influenced the Beatles song “Back In The USSR”. McCartney explained that he was inspired by Chuck Berry’s “Back In The USA”. He wanted to make fun of that. Other songs covered include “Let It Be,” “Hey Jude,” “Twist And Shout,” and “Blackbird.” The podcast episodes were created over several years during the collaboration on the book “The Lyrics: 1965 to Present”.
