The survival horror extraction shooter The Day Before, produced by the Singapore-based development studio Fntastic and distributed by Mytona, which was once touted by the creators as an open-world horror MMO, has, as expected, a post-apocalyptic start on Steam upon release laid down. 24 hours after publication, it continues to rain consistently negative reviews and numerous absolutely devastating reviews. PCGH had reported in detail about the devastating feedback from the players.
Of around 12,500 reviews submitted in the first 24 hours after release, just 16 percent were positive. With a total share of 84 percent negative reviews, the rating of The Day Before on Steam is current “Extremely negative“, the trend continues in this direction.
Quite a few players now seem to be of the opinion that the sometimes damning reviews are more entertaining than the actual game, as can be seen from a “Best of” review on Steam.
“I think the people here put a lot more effort into writing the reviews than the developers of The Day Before.”
“There’s little to no fun in the game, the only fun I felt was making fun of the design of some of the characters and the poor running animations that rival even Ghost Recon Breakpoint.”
“The weapons feel so ♥♥♥♥♥, and hits only connect within 1-2 working days, which makes PvP an absolute nightmare. Even my father is back from buying milk faster than the hits connect.”
“So first a short version. The game is absolute snot.”
“The Day Before Refund. The Day Before you got scammed.”
– Selection of reviews on Steam –
The game is also becoming more and more of a meme on social networks and videos of bugs, crashes and glitches are piling up. Ground clipping in particular seems to occur everywhere in survival horror shooters.
From community favorite to object of hate
Since The Day Before, which was previously advertised as an open-world horror MMO with an open game world, ultimately turned out to be an extraction shooter with a small accessible area, no fewer players are already openly talking about a scam in their reviews. There’s not much left of the community favorite that took first place on many wish lists on Steam.
The developer remains silent
Unlike the thousands of players who have spoken out loudly, the development studio Fntastic and the publisher Mytona have remained silent about the allegations, which also doesn’t shed too good a light on The Day Before. It is at least doubtful whether the game will get significantly better over the course of Early Access.
