Plans for autumn: Lauterbach now has to explain its corona chaos politics

Corona consultation hours in Berlin!

Karl Lauterbach’s (59, SPD) corona infection has hardly been over when the minister has to go to the press and explain his plans for the corona autumn.

And it could get down to business. Because: The Minister of Health got tangled up in a real corona chaos:

► Lauterbach wants the obligation to wear masks and tests back. Although he himself found out last year that the mask in bars and restaurants “does relatively little”.

Explosive: Everyone who has just been vaccinated (no more than three months ago) should be exempt from the obligations. This exception is met with harsh criticism in some countries.

Also because Lauterbach causes confusion with his statements: On July 15, he told the “Spiegel” about the fourth vaccination: “If someone wants to enjoy the summer and not take the risk of falling ill, then I would recommend the vaccination to younger people in consultation with the family doctor.” The STIKO recommends the fourth Piks only from 70. Now Lauterbach says: “I never said that all younger people should now be vaccinated.”

That means: If you don’t want to spend autumn and winter with a mask and long-term tests, you will probably have to get vaccinated a fourth time – if Lauterbach has its way – contrary to the STIKO recommendation. So should the “vaccination subscription” really come for a mask and test-free autumn and winter?

Other countries have abolished measures

The Minister of Health will also have to explain why Germany is going straight into the jungle of measures again, while many countries around us have long since said goodbye to corona measures.

► Hardly any other European country has such strict plans. Many countries (e.g. Norway, Switzerland and Great Britain) abolished the measures months ago.

Even Chancellor Olaf Scholz (62, SPD) contradicted Lauterbach’s corona plans: Nobody knew how the pandemic would develop in autumn. “If things are going well, you don’t have to use many of these options for action at state level.”

Today the Berlin doctor Leif Erik Sander is supposed to be on the podium at the federal press conference. According to the Ministry of Health, representatives of the Robert Koch Institute were not there this time due to vacation.
