A social scientist with a focus on peace and conflict research will be the new managing director of the Würmtal adult education center. Julika Bake succeeds Veronika Wagner, who managed the adult education facility for nine years and now wants to turn to other tasks. Bake now introduced himself to the VHS office.
The 40-year-old has worked in Protestant adult education at the study center in Josefstal am Schliersee for the past six years. She found the VHS Würmtal through a job advertisement. Bake received his doctorate in Augsburg and has worked in Marburg, Malmö and Josefstal. She lives in Munich-Laim. As a conflict researcher, she said at her introduction to the VHS office in Planegg, she naturally has an inner connection to the war in Ukraine and wants to quickly create a kind of “Ukraine series” together with her team and her representative Karola Albrecht. She is also thinking of a cooperation with the community library and the Pollner bookstore.
In October, the “Night of Democracy” of the VHS-Würmtal will take place again, until then they want to put the topic of Ukraine in the foreground, especially since there are already a number of Ukrainian refugees in the Würmtal who can be specifically “helped with German courses. The also show a great will to learn the German language,” reports Bake. She has now gotten used to working in Planegg as manager of one of the largest adult education centers in Upper Bavaria: “I just jumped right in.” It is important to maintain the good numbers in the Würmtal communities of Planegg, Gräfelfing, Neuried, Krailling and Gauting: Despite Corona, 800 courses with around 12,000 participants were held in the adult education center last year.
Bake is striving for close cooperation with the board of directors of the Würmtal adult education center and its chairman, Klaus Tonte, and she promises that there will be constant exchanges: “The adult education center is a wonderful institution that has been close to my heart for a long time. People need education, am best holistic. And you get that from us.”
