Planegg – fence should protect the Stoawiesn – district of Munich

The Stoawiesn between Graefelfing and Steinkirchen is actually a biotope – which the community also indicates with a large sign. However, the former gritty wasteland on the Planegger industrial park has developed into a popular area for walkers with and without a dog, for children playing and cyclists in recent years. The consequences are trampled grass and plants, dog droppings and trails across the wonderfully blooming biotope in summer. One does not like to see the development in the town hall.

According to Richard Richter, who heads the environmental agency, the meadow, which has been left in its natural state for ten years, is not only a dividing green between the two communities, but is now also home to a number of rare flora and fauna species. The municipality of Planegg has invested a quarter of a million euros in the area in recent years and has so far waived further restrictions for visitors and walkers. Now, however, it has put up a massive metal fence on the southeast side of the 3.6 hectare area to curb the flow of visitors. The environmental agency said that it was hoped that the central areas of the Stoawiesn could now return to peace.

The biotope is so important to the Planegg community for a completely different reason. It is actually a so-called eco-account. This means that other interventions by the community, for example in natural areas, can be compensated for by the Stoawiesn. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority in the Munich District Office also has a say in this. Therefore inspections by experts take place annually. This is to ensure that the Stoawiesn can continue to be considered an eco-area. This assessment is now apparently in jeopardy – hence the fence.
