Plane struck by lightning – emergency landing at Munich Airport – Munich

After a lightning strike, a plane en route from Hamburg to the Turkish holiday metropolis of Antalya made an unscheduled landing in Munich. The plane was diverted purely as a precaution; at no time were the 178 travelers and the six crew members in danger, the Condor airline said on Monday upon request. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported on the incident on Sunday.

According to Munich Airport, the plane triggered the alarm at around 3:40 p.m. As a precaution, the fire department was positioned along the runway, said an airport spokesman. The plane then landed normally and the passengers and crew also got out normally. According to Condor, everyone was able to take off for Turkey shortly afterwards with a replacement aircraft. According to a Condor spokeswoman, the Airbus A320 is being technically checked in Munich. According to initial findings, the machine could probably be used in flight operations again at short notice.
