Pilot dies after motor glider crash in Hildesheim district | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

Rescue workers secure one of the buildings damaged in the crash in Lübbrechtsen.

Early on Friday evening, a motor glider crashed into two residential buildings in the village of Lübbrechtsen in the Leinebergland municipality (Hildeseim district). The pilot from the Magdeburg area (Saxony-Anhalt) died, the police said.

Because there were no residents directly in the houses at the time of the crash, there were no other injuries.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing

Investigations are now underway into the cause of the crash. The scene of the accident was cordoned off by the police and fire brigade, and the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigations was called in.

According to the police investigation, the pilot took off with his motor glider in the Magdeburg area. It circled twice over the town of Lübbrechtsen. Witnesses observed that the plane lost altitude significantly the second time, and howling engine noises were also heard. After that, the pilot crashed.
