The Smurfs’ father died at the age of 87. The Dutch singer Pierre Kartner recently led a withdrawn life. The artist has won numerous prizes and is best known in Germany as Vader Abraham.
Dutch singer Pierre Kartner has died at the age of 87. This was reported by the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf” with reference to his management. The singer, also known as Vader Abraham, had lived a completely reclusive life for the past two years. Kartner was particularly popular with German audiences “Song of the Smurfs” (1977) became known. He stopped performing and stopped appearing in public. The family did not provide any information about the cause of death. According to Dutch media, Kartner died in his hometown of Breda on Tuesday morning. He was buried quietly on Friday.
Pierre Kartner was born in Elst in 1935 and has lived in Breda for most of his life. His life was entirely devoted to music. He was a singer, ex-bassist, lyricist, composer and producer. He scored his biggest hits with “Het Kleine Café Aan de Haven” (1975) and “Het smurfenlied” (1977). “Het Kleine Café” has been covered more than 200 times by other artists, with “Het Smurfenlied” topping the charts worldwide. In addition, he achieved fame with a variety of carnival songs.
Kartner was also very successful as a composer and producer. The artist has received several awards. In 1973 he received the Edith Piaf Prize and in 1987 the Golden Harp.
