Pianist Evgeny Kissin in an interview: “Indifference is the worst” – Culture

Piano grandmaster Evgeny Kissin, Russian exile and active supporter of Ukraine, on Putin’s KGB mentality, dangers for Germany and the need to continue playing Russian music.

The pianist Evgeny Kissin has been among the world leaders in his field for many years. He emigrated from Moscow in 1991, initially stayed with relatives in England, later moved to New York and now lives in Prague. In Leipzig he recently played Sergei Rachmaninoff’s 3rd Piano Concerto from 1909, which caused him great mental problems given the war in Ukraine. The triumphant ending seemed particularly inappropriate to him. He, normally not a fan of interviews, wants to talk about that now.
