Physicists of the Wendelstein 7-X achieve a milestone in energy conversion – knowledge

So the conversion was worth it. At the world’s largest nuclear fusion reactor of the so-called stellarator type, the Wendelstein 7-X in Greifswald, a maximum amount of energy of 75 megajoules could be pumped into the hot gas in the reactor and discharged again. Then the experiment was modernized – and now it creates an energy turnover of 1.3 gigajoules. The researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) have thus surpassed their self-imposed milestone of one gigajoule and surpassed the previous record by a factor of 17.
