Photo book: When the Beatles conquered the world

On April 10, 1970, Paul McCartney surprisingly announced the end of the Beatles. With that, the career of what is arguably the largest pop group came to an abrupt end. The Fab Four have dominated the music world for almost a decade and delighted music fans all over the world.

Your career is well documented. Chance also helped: When the British photographer Harry Benson was commissioned at the beginning of 1964 to accompany the band to France, which was currently extremely successful in his home country, he was initially less than enthusiastic. A rock group didn’t interest him, he would have preferred to go to Africa. But he quickly established a connection with the four young musicians and won their trust. In this way he got many intimate photos that John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr showed in private moments.

Above all, Benson experienced Beatlemania up close and was there when the group traveled to the USA for the first time in February and took the country by storm. The photo book “The Beatles. On the Road 1964-1966” brings together the photos taken over two years, which depict the most important phase in the Fab Four’s career. From the beginning of Beatlemania in the USA to their last concert in San Francisco in 1966.

“The Beatles. On the Road 1964-1966” by Harry Benson is at Taschen Verlag published and costs 29.99 euros.
