Philippe, Le Pen and Attal favorite personalities of the French for… drinking a beer

There are popular and unpopular politicians. There are sympathetic and unsympathetic politicians. This is what the “Beer test” is trying to measure, an Ifop survey for Coriolink and revealed by Le Figaro. It simply involves asking respondents who they would like to have a beer with.

At the top of this ranking we find Edouard Philippe. 37% of respondents would like to have a beer with him. Followed by Marine Le Pen (35%) and Gabriel Attal (34%). The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, is at the foot of the podium, with 28%. The head of state has lost 16 points since 2017 when Marine Le Pen gained ten at the same time. The president of the RN group in the National Assembly is even in the lead in terms of those who “totally want” to have a beer with (17%). Clearly ahead of his winner of the last two presidential elections, who obtained 12% in this game.

The left behind

The first personality on the left is 5th, it is the communist Fabien Roussel, with 25%. In front of the rebellious François Ruffin (22%), far ahead of the leader of LFI Jean-Luc Mélenchon (15%), the leader of the PS Olivier Faure (14%) or the ecologist Sandrine Rousseau (13%).

This survey is “traditional” in the United States, less so in France where it has only existed since 2017. Even if there are other surveys such as the one where we ask who French people would like to go on vacation with. In the USA, Le Figaro explains that we see things in this “beer test” that we do not see in other types of survey. Maybe. Still, the ranking of French political figures with whom respondents seem to want to have a beer is very similar to the ranking of the popularity of these same personalities.
