Pharmacist adulterates cancer drugs – compensation for survivors – health

It is one of the biggest medical scandals in Germany: the former Bottrop pharmacist Peter S. adulterated cancer drugs for years, injected far too little active ingredient or cheaper drugs into many individually dosed infusion bags – and earned millions. In 2018, the Essen Regional Court sentenced him to twelve years in prison for counterfeiting more than 14,000 cancer therapies and billing fraud in the amount of a good 17 million euros, and he was also banned from working for life. The then Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn reacted to the case in 2019 and anchored an obligation to carry out unannounced checks in the Medicines Act – the Bottrop pharmacy had practically not been checked for years.
