“Penthesilea: A Requiem” at the Deutsches Theater Berlin – Culture

Attempts to charm potential sexual partners sometimes sounded more charming than here. Mr. Achilles, supposedly a heroic warrior, tries on Ms. Penthesilea with a saying that sounds like desperation shortly before the last round in the village disco: “I am the hero of heroes, at this hour of the night I wanted to be a little bit your hero too .” With leather pants, cowboy boots and a slippery bathrobe, a slightly slouching gait, greasy hair and a worn-out, unshaven face, this Achilles demonstrates quite clearly that toxic masculinity has reached its stage of decline, at least in his case. Any sell-by date for any residual attractiveness that may have been left over from youth has long since expired. No wonder that at some point the poor guy has to hear from the much more energetic representatives of the ladies that he is just a “particularly failed specimen of his disgusting species”. This must be it, the famous feminist theater!
