The district court of Güstrow has issued a penalty order of 13,500 euros against the former MV Interior Minister. Caffier is accused of taking advantage by the Rostock public prosecutor’s office.

The Güstrow district court has issued a penalty order in the amount of 13,500 euros against the former interior minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lorenz Caffier. According to the director of the court, Andreas Millat, this corresponds to 45 daily rates per 300 euros. It’s about a pistol that Caffier is said to have received from an arms dealer without payment. The Rostock public prosecutor’s office accuses him of taking advantage.

Caffier resigned as Minister of the Interior in 2020

Caffier had previously stated that he bought the weapon in early 2018. The semi-automatic handgun is worth around 800 euros. The Rostock public prosecutor, on the other hand, is convinced that the CDU politician accepted the pistol free of charge, as a gift, so to speak. In addition, Caffier is said to have taken part in a free shooting training for a briefing. He was also given the ammunition for this.

Dealers are said to have connections to Nordkreuz

After the takeover of the weapon became known, the CDU politician resigned as Minister of the Interior a good year ago. The dealer and shooting trainer from whom Caffier got the gun is said to have had contacts with the right-wing extremist network Nordkreuz, according to the intelligence service. Caffier later spoke of a mistake that he had failed to inform the public. He wanted to use the pistol privately as a hunter.

The penalty order is not yet legally binding, Caffier now has two weeks to file an objection. He did not want to comment on the incident.
