The case of little Peggy, who disappeared 22 years ago, will be heard in civil court in the spring. On April 18, 2024, the 2nd Civil Chamber will hear the lawsuit filed by the mother of the killed girl for compensation for pain and suffering, the Hof Regional Court announced on Wednesday.
The lawsuit is therefore directed against the man who initially admitted in 2018 that he had taken Peggy’s body to a forest in May 2001, but later retracted this confession. According to the court, the woman is demanding at least 75,000 euros from him.
According to the court, Peggy’s mother bases her claim for pain and suffering on psychological impairments. For 15 years she had no knowledge of her child’s whereabouts. The man she sued was initially taken into custody in 2018, but was then released again. The court said he believes the lawsuit is unfounded. He states that he gave false information to the police at the time and later retracted it.
In May 2001, Peggy, then nine years old, disappeared on her way home from school in Lichtenberg in Upper Franconia. Large-scale searches abroad were unsuccessful. It wasn’t until 2016 that a mushroom picker discovered Peggy’s body in a forest on the border between Bavaria and Thuringia.
