The series universe has a new Captain Kirk: In “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Paul Wesley gets to play the Starfleet legend.
From bloodsucker to Starfleet legend: Actor Paul Wesley (39), best known for the fantasy series “Vampire Diaries”, will play Captain James T. Kirk in the second season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”. That reports the US industry website “The Hollywood Reporter” and already posted a picture of Wesley in the iconic yellow Federation uniform.
This means that an important newcomer for the second season is already certain, even before the first season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” has even aired. It won’t start until May 5th on the US streaming service Paramount+ and is a spin-off to “Star Trek: Discovery”. Also on board again: Anson Mount (49) as Captain Pike and Ethan Peck (36) as Spock. Where the series will be shown in Germany has not yet been clarified. Paramount+ should not be available in Germany until the second half of 2022, then via Sky.
Also new “Star Trek” movie with Kirk in the making
On the big screen, however, Chris Pine (41) is expected to slip into the role of Captain Kirk again in the foreseeable future. Like the US industry site “Deadline” In mid-February 2022, the Paramount film studio is now working flat out on a fourth part of the reboot series, in which Pine will once again direct the fortunes of the USS Enterprise as Starfleet Captain.
According to the report, the plan is for production to start by the end of this year. Accordingly, Paramount is currently in negotiations with Pine, talks with his original crew are to follow, i.e.: Zachary Quinto (44) as Spock, Zoe Saldana (43) as Lieutenant Uhura, Karl Urban (49) as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, John Cho (49) as Sulu and Simon Pegg (52) as Scotty.
