Emmanuel Macron again has an adviser on anti-terrorism. Pascal Mailhos was indeed appointed Wednesday in the Council of Ministers national coordinator of intelligence and the fight against terrorism (CNRLT), replacing Laurent Nuñez.
The post of national coordinator, placed with the head of state, had been vacant for six months, the date of the appointment of Laurent Nuñez as prefect of police of Paris.
Fabienne Buccio becomes the first prefect of Lyon
Aged 64, Pascal Mailhos had been prefect of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and prefect of the Rhône for four years. He is replaced by Fabienne Buccio, who until now was prefect of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and prefect of Gironde in Bordeaux. She will be the first woman to hold the post of prefect in Lyon.
In the field of security, Pascal Mailhos reinforced the security systems in Lyons in the districts of Part-Dieu and La Guillotière (with 300 police officers, including a republican security company (CRS) as reinforcements) and devoted a great deal of air and soil pollution issues, notably by signing the atmosphere protection plan. He was also prefect coordinator of the national plan on the wolf and largely worked for the dissolution of the far-right group Génération Identitaire in 2021.
His relations with elected environmentalists, in particular with the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet, have often been tense and complicated, particularly around security in the Guillotière district, which has been the subject of a pass of arms between the edile and Gérald Darmanin. His mandate was also marked by the attack on rue Victor Hugo which left 14 injured in 2019.
A passage at the head of the RG
In 2004, Pascal Mailhos had already succeeded Yves Bertrand in the direction of General Intelligence (RG), where he remained for two years. “These positions allowed him to work with all security actors, DGSI, territorial intelligence, police, gendarmes but also with the military because he was prefect of the defense zone”, we underline Elysium. “He is a great prefect of the Republic, a man of decision and unity who will be able to advance his missions in full cohesion with our security services”, adds the same source.
