Pas-de-Calais placed on orange rain-flood alert

Pas-de-Calais was placed on rain-flood alert on Sunday and Monday by Météo-France, with overcast and rainy weather elsewhere. In this department, “the accumulations could be notable (…) between 30 and 50 mm mainly centered on the west of Pas-de-Calais”, according to the Météo-France press release.

“During the evening, under the stormy showers circulating from the west of Pas-de-Calais to Flanders, gusts of south-westerly wind could occasionally reach 100/110 km/h inland”, adds the meteorological service.

Rainy New Year, Happy New Year

The year 2023 ends with overcast and rainy weather in the morning from the South-West to the Massif Central and the North-East. In the afternoon, these precipitations will shift to the eastern side of the country and block over the Jura and the Alps. The rain-snow limit, around 1,500 m at midday, will drop to between 800 and 1,000 m in the evening.

This disturbance will be accompanied by a sustained southwest then west wind, 70 to 80 km/h, locally 90 km/h in gusts. The south of Occitanie, the west of the Massif Central and the Mediterranean rim will only experience light rain, with clearings in the afternoon.

Not too much heat either

Behind, the weather will remain choppy. Initially clearings will dominate in the North-West but quickly showers will circulate over Brittany, wind gusts reaching 100 km/h on the coast, 80 to 90 in the interior.

In the afternoon this changeable weather will reach a good western half of the country, but in the North-East and south of the Garonne the clearings will be more lasting. Near the Channel and the Atlantic showers will be frequent, sometimes stormy.

Minimum temperatures will range from four to eight degrees generally from east to west, up to 10 along the Mediterranean. The maximums will vary between 8 and 12 degrees in the northern half and the Massif Central, between 11 and 15 further south, between 14 and 19 in Corsica.
