Party, pyro and picnic: This is how the world celebrated January 1st

New Year’s Day worldwide – there were a lot of colorful celebrations with lots of fireworks. After two years of the pandemic with largely failed New Year’s Eve parties, people celebrated this turn of the year in many places around the world as they did before the corona restrictions. In Germany, private fireworks were allowed again. In Berlin, people celebrated a big party at the Brandenburg Gate.

This year Sydney called itself the “New Year’s Eve Capital of the World” and delighted with a lot of pyrotechnics. With summer temperatures around 20 degrees, it was also possible to slip into the new year in a relaxed manner.

New York traditionally celebrates into January 1st

In New York there was the traditional rain of confetti in Times Square. London shone in an official fireworks display, which spectators were allowed to attend again this year.

Even Beijing’s clubs and bars have been buzzing again after China backed away from its strict zero-Covid policy.
