Moving around, there’s nothing to see at the moment. This Wednesday, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, announced the postponement until after the Olympic and Paralympic Games of the establishment of the limited traffic zone (ZTL) which aims to prohibit transit traffic in the center.
“I accepted, at the suggestion of the police prefect, that we could go beyond the Olympic and Paralympic Games, because during this period, in any case, part of the Parisian territory will have limited traffic,” said announced Anne Hidalgo during the presentation of the City’s next climate plan.
A new report
The implementation of this ZTL was to take place “at the beginning of 2024”, after a first postponement of a year and a half decided in 2022. The ZTL is supposed to apply to the Paris Center sector, corresponding to the first four arrondissements, and a part of the 5th, 6th and 7th arrondissements.
Motorized vehicles could no longer enter to cross it only, so-called transit traffic which, according to the town hall, represents half of the traffic.
Many negotiations
Its implementation and perimeter have long been the subject of difficult negotiations with the police headquarters, whose headquarters are located on the Île de la Cité, in the heart of the future zone.
“We are still working on its outlines and controls but it will be well implemented the day after the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Anne Hidalgo. The Paris Paralympic Games will end on September 8, 2024.
