Paralyzed forever! When I realized that, I thought: My life is over. That was fourteen years ago.

On a hot summer day I had dived into a shallow lake and fractured my sixth cervical vertebra. After an artificial coma and two surgeries lasting several hours, I woke up in the hospital. I couldn’t move or speak, there was a ventilator on my face. A few days later I got a speaking essay and asked about my diagnosis. The answer was a nightmare: paraplegia.
