Pap Ndiaye in tears in the Senate after the suicide of Lucas

When talking about Lucas, his voice knotted. “When a child ends his life, there are no words to express the emotion, the grief, the pain”, evoked, very moved, the Minister of National Education, questioned by the environmentalist senator Mélanie Vogel after the suicide in the Vosges of Lucas, 13, whose parents claim he was harassed because of his homosexuality.

The Minister of Education Pap Ndiaye on Wednesday wished “the generalization in each academy of awareness, prevention and action groups” against homophobia at school in the coming weeks, after the suicide of the teenager from 13 years.

Prevention groups against “LGBTphobia”

For Pap Ndiaye, “this tragedy shows how the fight against school bullying, against homophobia must remain a government priority”. “Sexual orientation is often a point of support for the perpetrators of harassment, such as physical appearance, origin, social condition,” added the minister.

“On the fight against homophobia at school, I have decided that in each academy should be generalized in the coming weeks awareness, prevention and action groups against LGBTphobia and I will follow this personally”, announced the Minister.

These groups make it possible to collect information, initiate prevention and support actions for educational teams, or even implement training. Pap Ndiaye conceded that there was “still a long way to go” but promised that “National Education is fully committed in this matter”.
