Oleg Gaponyuk could no longer see the usual postcard views of tourist attractions. He wanted to try something new. In 2006 he changed his perspective and founded the AirPano group to photograph well-known sights from the air.
“The first plan was to photograph the 100 most beautiful places in the world,” says Gaponyuk. “Once we got there, however, we realized that we couldn’t finish the project at this point. So we decided to continue.”
Over the years, the team, which has now grown to more than ten photographers, has succeeded in taking sensational pictures of skyscraper roofs, from airplanes and helicopters up to the highest altitude: from the stratosphere.
AirPano relies on the latest technology, drones and cooperation with camera manufacturers for all photo projects. Over the years 4,000 panoramic shots and 360-degree videos have been made between the North Pole and Antarctica, on tropical beaches, in the jungle, in national parks and metropolises.
The photographer team not only publishes the results of their work on their homepage at www.airpano.combut also in several books. Your third illustrated book is entitled “Europe images“also in a German publisher Frederking & Thaler, appeared.
The special thing about this large-format work: At the end of the book, individual motifs are shown again in mini-format with QR codes. The panoramas, which would exceed any book format, can be viewed in high resolution on the smartphone or tablet.
