A gala dinner and celebration with government officials were originally planned for the Crown Princess when she comes of age on January 21st. The celebrations had to be postponed – because of Corona.

The Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra can only celebrate her 18th birthday on January 21st in a small group.

Due to the corona situation in Norway, the gala dinner in the castle and the celebration with government representatives have been postponed. The royal family announced on Thursday.

Ingrid Alexandra is the oldest child of the Crown Prince couple Haakon and Mette-Marit. She will one day succeed her grandfather King Harald and her father to the throne. That is why the day she comes of age is a memorial day in Norwegian history.

21 cannon shots

“I was looking forward to celebrating Princess Ingrid Alexandra on the day she came of age, but unfortunately the infection situation makes it impossible,” said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, according to a statement. The government wanted to give her a celebration in the Deichmann Library with dinner, music and cultural contributions.

But Ingrid Alexandra is still given a form of honor. The military chief has ordered 21 cannon shots to be fired from all salute stations in the country at 12 noon on January 21.
