Pakistan: Rare Creature – Animal Rights Activists Rescue Blind Indus Dolphin (Video)

Watch the video: Animal rights activists in Pakistan save blind Indus dolphin.

Animal rights activists in Pakistan recently fought hard to save one of the rare Indus dolphins that got lost in waters it does not belong in. Because the mammal has lived in the murky waters of the Indus for millions of years, it has become blind. The dolphin moves through the waters with the help of a sonar system or an echolocation system. The animals are very rare. The total population is estimated at around 1500 specimens. The animal rights activists in Pakistan caught the freshwater dolphin with nets. Several men were on duty at the same time. Finally, the animal was carefully loaded onto a truck and taken across the road to a protected area more than 80 kilometers away. The Indus dolphin is being displaced more and more from its natural habitat by humans. The dolphin, which can be over two meters tall and weigh more than 100 kg, only occurs in a 1 207 km long section of the river, i.e. in less than half of its original range. Again and again the animal rights activists have to bring stray dolphins to safety.
