An apparently overzealous firefighter is said to have illegally coerced other road users on Autobahn 73 near Bamberg using a blue light in his private vehicle. According to a witness, the driver entered the motorway near Hirschaid on Wednesday and immediately moved into the left lane, the police said on Thursday. There he drove massively into the vehicles in front of him, flashed his lights several times and used a blue light in the interior of his BMW.
“By driving aggressively at high speed, the BMW driver forced a number of vehicles to leave the fast lane in order to move faster himself,” the police statement said. According to the investigation, it is a 22-year-old from the Coburg district who was called to an operation as a firefighter. He was neither authorized nor trained to use private blue lights. He is now being investigated for usurpation of office and coercion in traffic.
