Overwatch 2 chat bug caused unwanted purchases, no refunds from Blizzard

Blizzard continues to struggle with the aftermath of the launch of Overwatch 2 and in the meantime has also fixed a chat bug that caused unwanted purchases in the in-game shop.

Said chat bug, which was first reported on Reddit, caused unintended purchases in the hero gallery, there are no refunds from Blizzard.

What happened?

“On the day of Overwatch 2 release, I was chatting with some friends while browsing the hero gallery when the game unexpectedly started unlocking Junker Queen’s Plutonium skin,” writes one user Reddit. “I was just typing a message into the chat and before I could respond and cancel the purchase, the skin was already purchased.”

“It appears to be caused by a bug where text typed into chat is occasionally misinterpreted by the game as input for navigating the menu. And unfortunately, to unlock a skin, you only need to press the spacebar twice, which happens in a split second can if you press them dozens of times per sentence.”

More Overwatch 2 news:

“The Plutonium skin is only worth 300 legacy credits so ultimately it’s not a big deal but I’m pretty disappointed that they won’t be offering a refund for it. I’m not surprised though.”

A new update has now fixed this bug, but according to the user, he still hasn’t received a refund for it.

“We are unable to offer refunds or compensation for unlocks made with in-game currency in Overwatch,” Blizzard said.
