This video from an outdoor pool in Austria causes a stir:
A lifeguard kicks a young man from the 10-meter tower into the water.
The incident happened in mid-August in Steyr, Austria.
According to media reports, eyewitness accounts are contradictory.
Some claim that the young man on the tower was afraid – others describe that he prevented the tower from closing.
The city released a statement on Facebook that said, among other things:
“The lifeguard’s job is to ensure safety. It is therefore very unfortunate that an incident involving a lifeguard was involved (…) It is undisputed that the lifeguard did not behave properly.”
It also explains the consequences of the incident.
The lifeguard from the video was verbally warned by his superior and will no longer be used in the outdoor pool until the facts of the case have been completely clarified.
In the statement, the city also apologizes to the unknown bather and those present. The young man did not report the incident.
