If there is a theme that runs through Ottfried Fischer’s work, be it as a cabaret artist, actor or author, then it is this one: home. The question of what home is, what it does and what it means – to himself and to others – has always occupied Fischer, and he has found various answers to it. For example: “Home is where you don’t have to suck in your stomach.” Or: “Home is where the obituaries tell you something” – that’s the name of the book he published in 2019, an interim assessment of his life that is also a declaration of love, a homage to Passau and the entire region: Lower Bavaria. This is Fischer’s home. That’s where he comes from. In 2017 he was awarded the title of “Hometown Ambassador of the Passau Region”.
