Oschmann and Hoyer: The new East debate – culture

Since the appearance of Dirk Oschmann’s pamphlet “The East: A West German Invention” this spring, there has been talk again about the East that, according to Oschmann, has been declared by the West to be a mere deviation from its own norm over the past thirty years. Oschmann’s book not only provokes with its title, it also consistently provokes with the simplicity of its argumentation. The author openly admits right at the beginning of his book that he also wants to do this. One can therefore assume that this is not a question of an inability to complex trains of thought, but of calculation. The author is a professor of literature at the University of Leipzig.
