Oscars: trailer show with uppercut by Will Smith – Culture

First terribly rushed, then just terrifying: The 94th Academy Awards had a worthy winner in “Coda”, but they never found themselves.

Let’s start with an apology: The diagnosis that the Oscars have suffered from the absence of presenters in recent years cannot have been correct – this time there were three, as if the Academy had wanted to make up for the missed engagements at once, and it didn’t help the show. The three presenters – Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, who is usually the funniest woman alive – did well, but not brilliantly. The ceremony started off as if it were going to be the most boring trailer show ever, but then drifted so thoroughly into the bizarre that the fact that with “Coda” the best film actually got the trophy for the best filmseemed almost irrelevant.
