Oscars 2023: Jimmy Kimmel becomes presenter

American late-night presenter Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the Oscars for the third time in 2023. Kimmel will host the 95th edition of the event, scheduled for March 12, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Monday. Kimmel previously hosted the gala in 2017 and 2018. “Being invited a third time is either an honor or a trap,” he joked. “But whatever the case, I’m grateful to the Academy for asking me – so soon after all the good guys canceled.”

At the last ceremony in spring 2022, a trio of women led the show for the first time in the history of the Academy Awards: the actresses Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. Previously, there had almost always been a celebrity host in the history of the Oscars – but in 2019, 2020 and 2021 there was no host at all.

The record holder as an Oscar presenter is comedian Bob Hope, who died in 2003 and hosted 19 times. Billy Crystal did it nine times, Steve Martin three times. Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg and John Stewart, among others, have already moderated the gala.
