Born in 1954 into poor circumstances to underage parents, the journalist worked her way up to become one of the most famous presenters in America. She was the first black woman to become a billionaire. Today her fortune is estimated at $2.8 billion.
Oprah Winfrey began her career as a news anchor in Baltimore, but in 1983 she moved to Chicago. From 1986 she hosted “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. For the next quarter century, “Oprah,” as the format was mostly simply called, was the most influential daily talk show on U.S. television. In addition to hosting, Winfrey also produced the show through her own company, Harpo – which means Oprah spelled backwards. It was the foundation of their wealth.
