Opposition requests committee of inquiry into the mask affair – Bavaria

The parliamentary groups of the SPD, FDP and Greens in the Bavarian state parliament have jointly requested a committee of inquiry to clarify the mask affair. Such a committee was “absolutely necessary” in order to clarify the mask business of the Bavarian state government as well as possible involvement in particular of CSU politicians, announced the three parliamentary groups on Tuesday in Munich. The Legal Affairs Committee could vote on the application this Thursday. It is expected that the committee of inquiry will be set up this year.

The request for the committee of inquiry contains a catalog with 244 questions, which deals in particular with the awarding, mediation and acceptance of orders and contracts concluded over the past ten years. The focus is primarily on the business related to personal protective equipment during the corona pandemic. According to the opinion of the opposition factions, the state government had insufficiently answered several inquiries from the SPD, FDP and the Greens about the mask deals and rejected an independent special investigator.
