One dead in a chase with the police in the 20th arrondissement

One person died and two others were seriously injured while being chased by car by police during the night from Monday to Tuesday in Paris, AFP learned Tuesday from a police source.

The events took place around 11:45 p.m., boulevard Mortier, in the 20th arrondissement. Pursued by the police, the vehicle of the three motorists “hit street furniture”, according to this source. One person died at the scene and the other two were taken to hospital “in serious condition”.

Deaths in chases are increasing

Details about the circumstances of the chase were not immediately known. Contacted by AFP, the Paris prosecutor’s office and the Paris police headquarters have not yet responded.

Several young people have died in recent months in France after chases with the police. On the night of October 6 to 7, a 23-year-old young man died in a scooter accident while being pursued by municipal police officers in Saint-Priest (Rhône). Two months earlier, in Limoges, on the night of August 5 to 6, two young people riding a scooter died after hitting a vehicle while trying to escape a police check.
