One billion streams: Taylor Swift breaks another Spotify record

Taylor Swift’s (34) new album “The Tortured Poets Department” immediately broke records on the music streaming service Spotify. The Swedish company announced on April 20th that the singer’s eleventh studio album had been viewed over 300 million times on the day it was released, April 19th. The recording has now even passed the one billion stream mark. Spotify announced this on April 24th on X.

Most streamed album in a week

In addition, “The Tortured Poets Department” also became the most streamed album on Spotify within a week, as the post states. This milestone was reached on April 22nd. What’s particularly notable is that the first week of the album’s release isn’t even over yet. It doesn’t end until Thursday, April 25th, which means the final number of views will most likely increase within a week.

Taylor Swift breaks her own record

The previous record for the most streams of an album within a week was held by Taylor Swift herself. The singer set it in October 2022 with her album “Midnights”, as the US magazine “Variety” reports. According to insiders, “Midnights” probably reached 700 million views in one week. Spotify did not give an official number.

On April 19, the release day of “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift also set even more Spotify records. The single “Fortnight,” which features rapper Post Malone (28), became the most streamed song in Spotify history in one day. Interpreter Swift, who recently joined the dollar billionaires club according to Forbes, also became the artist with the most streams on Spotify in one day.
