On the death of the artist Cozy Pièro – Munich

She dealt with queer lifeworlds long before the term was en vogue: the artist Cozy Pièro. Initially, it was less her art that testified to her gender-transcending attitude than her thoughts and actions, especially her bar “Bei Cosy”, which opened in 1961 and has become legendary. Artists went in and out there and, as she once said in retrospect, “the gays came, and the straight couples came, lesbians came – so a motley crew”. At Cosy, everything was new, it was different, and it stayed that way until 1980.
