FAKE OFF
Originally posted on TikTok, the video appears at first glance to be airing on BFMTV. We find the same color codes, the same logo and the same “direct” tab around the report. Only, a visual detail changes: the famous banner where the title of the subject appears has a different font from that usually used. What to put the chip in the ear on the veracity of what will be said later.
In duplex, the journalist recounts being in front of the gates of the Palace of Versailles “where the executive took refuge under very high police protection”. “Thousands of people of all ages are converging towards the National Assembly”. Then, an announcement interrupts him in his headset. “It is confirmed to me just now in my ear, the Head of State will speak on our antenna”.
A speech seen as a necessity
Emmanuel Macron then appears in front of an audience of deputies and begins his speech. “The constitution allows the President of the Republic to address the parliament meeting for this purpose in congress. There are times when this possibility is a necessity. The hours we are living in are one of those, ”he says.
Until then the speech is plausible with the current context, but the rest is devoid of any link with the current pension reform. “We preferred clientelism, conflict of interest, everything that comes from an ordinary form of corruption, almost impalpable,” said the president again.
The reappearance of ministers
Also, the images show several recognizable politicians still in office today. We see for example the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire or the president of the National Rally Marine Le Pen. On the other hand, other present have since left political life, like the former Minister of Housing Julien Denormandie.
Other details do not add up. Emmanuel Macron addresses “Mr. Prime Minister”, while the position is currently occupied by a woman, Élisabeth Borne. The sound is also muted at times. It would seem that the speech was changed to arrange the remarks. This is the case when Emmanuel Macron says: “The people gave us the mandate to give them back their full sovereignty. We have to leave, so it is”. Or again: “What is asked of us by the people is to renounce you and me”.
A six-year-old speech
The images actually date from a speech given on July 3, 2017 at the Congressional tribune in Versailles. At the time, Emmanuel Macron presented to deputies and senators its priorities for its first five-year term.
We find there certain sentences pronounced in the video: “In its article 18, the Constitution allows the President of the Republic to speak before the parliament assembled for this purpose in Congress. There are hours which make this possibility a necessity, the hours we are living are among those. […] Today I want to talk to you about the mandate that the people have given us, the institutions that I want to change, and the principles of action that I intend to follow,” he recalled.
A parody video
The video mostly appears to be a parody, as the speech sequence is followed by humorous footage. “The major French industrialists are organizing the exfiltration of the now ex-president”. Among these industrialists, Vincent Bolloré is cited as an accomplice to help thanks to his yacht accompanied “by bursts from the aircraft manufacturer Dassault”.
Other elements are also to be taken in the second degree, in particular at the beginning when the journalist announces: “We are a few journalists who have joined the movement, the other editorial journalists are currently… in the cellars”. There is therefore every reason to think that this video is a satire that emerged at the time of the pension reform.
