The Federal Government’s Expert Council is in favor of contact restrictions “in the coming days”. It goes to “effective nationwide coordinated countermeasures”, it says in the statement, which the ARD capital studio is present.
The new scientific corona expert council of the federal government has drawn up its first opinion, which the ARD capital studio is exclusive. With regard to the omicron variant, the scientists come to the conclusion that vaccination alone is not enough.
“Effective nationwide coordinated countermeasures to control the infection process must be prepared, in particular well-planned and well-communicated contact restrictions. The currently applicable measures must also be continued even more stringently. At the same time, the vaccination campaign should be considerably intensified,” said the panel of experts.
Bostern over the holidays too
The booster vaccinations as well as the first and second vaccinations would have to be “continued and accelerated further with all available means” over the holidays. For the elderly and other vulnerable groups in particular, “utmost urgency” is required. However, all models showed that booster vaccinations alone did not adequately contain the omicron wave, “but rather additional contact restrictions are necessary”.
