In a month there should be far-reaching relaxation of the corona measures. But the omicron variant BA.2 continues to spread. The Minister of Health warns on Twitter.

Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach warns against loosening corona measures too quickly in view of the increase in the omicron variant BA.2, which is likely to spread more quickly.

The SPD politician wrote on Twitter: “Opening contacts too quickly, beyond the MPK resolutions, would unnecessarily prolong the Omicron wave and cost unnecessary victims.”

In its most recent weekly report, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated that BA.2 had increased noticeably in Germany. Due to the progressive spread and easier transferability of BA.2, “a slower decrease or a renewed increase in the number of cases cannot be ruled out,” said the report on Thursday.

The day before, the federal and state governments had decided on extensive opening steps up to March 20, but spoke out in favor of basic protection beyond that date.
