Olympique Lyonnais condemned for “sexual discrimination” against a former young player

The Lyon judicial court condemned Olympique Lyonnais this Thursday for “sexual discrimination”. The courts considered that the allegations of the former young player of the club, excluded from the training center a year after joining the team, concerning a difference in treatment due to her sex, were “established”.

OL will have to pay this young woman the sums of 3,000 euros in “compensation for her moral damage” and 500 euros in “compensation for her damage resulting from a loss of opportunity”. She had claimed almost two million euros.

“It’s a historic decision”

“My client is very happy with this decision which concerns the future of all girls who want to play football,” commented to 20 minutes the family’s lawyer, Slim Ben Achour. This judgment requires a change in the practices of training centers throughout France. They will now have to make young girls sign the same agreements as young boys. »

Before adding: “Justice thus proves that OL, in addition to violating the law, is contradictory in its own communication on equality between sportswomen and men. It is important legally but also culturally to advance women’s football. Even beyond sport, it is a historic decision which sends a strong message of better consideration of women in society. »

“For us, it’s a big victory against OL,” reacted Jade’s father*. We have known what we have been fighting for for five years. This is the signal of justice that we have been waiting for. »
