Oettinger brewery: was that the cheap beer? – Bavaria

The Swabian brewery Oettinger became a giant with competitive prices. But the traditional company is weakening and has to become more expensive. About frugality, lure offers and the question of whether a cheap beer can taste good.

It’s still there, the crate of beer for five euros and a few crushed ones. The supermarket chains are still printing the blue plastic crate with the brown glass bottles in their brochures and adding a loud “action” to it, with an exclamation mark, of course. “Oettinger Pils or Export, crate: 20 x 0.5 l bottles,” advertised a retail group last week, for example. The price: unbeatable 5.88 euros – plus deposit. For comparison: On the same brochure page, a crate of mineral water is advertised for 5.49 euros.
