A fanfare awakening to stir the consciences of cruise passengers. Saturday morning, at sunrise, 25 members of the local group of Extinction Rebellion Bordeaux settled in front of the liner Azamura Pursuit, moored since noon Friday in the port of the moon. They played drums and chanted slogans in English, while holding up a banner reading “Stop sinking the climate”.
Very energy-intensive boats
The group wants to denounce the ecological aberration of such boats, which are extremely energy-intensive because they often offer on board heated swimming pools, casinos, cinemas, etc. “For example, the European Federation for Transport and the Environment, announces that the entire fleet of Carnival Corporation, owner of boats similar to the Azarama Pursuit, emits 10 times more sulfur oxide than the whole European vehicle fleet”, he explains.
It was the sixth action of this kind proposed by the organization Extinction Rebellion Bordeaux. “We will continue until the step aside is assumed and cruise ships will no longer be welcome on the quays of Bordeaux”, indicates the group.
