Obituary for Hans Meiser: The godfather of small dramas – media

Hans Meiser made private television history with formats that brought everyday concerns to the television stage. Now the talk show host has died at the age of 77.

He was the ratings king of young German private television. Some called him “the godfather” of afternoon talk shows. He, who had also studied art history as a minor, saw himself as a “verbal carver”. In the 1990s, Hans Meiser was the star of the show that bore his name for 1,700 episodes. Every weekday at 4 p.m. the time had come: with the charm of a not-so-old, but already white-haired man, Meiser presented topics such as “Dad loves a man”, “Help, I have to take the idiot test”, “My breasts give me self-confidence” and “Pee instead of pills – from urine drinkers and other self-healers” into German living rooms.
