Oberschleißheim – municipality cuts expenses – district of Munich

Shortly before the budget for the current year was passed, Oberschleißheim again slashed expenses this Tuesday: including the purchase of the planned air filters for the schools. Against the resistance of the SPD, the approximately 500,000 euros of own funds for the state-funded project were taken from the budget draft. Three million euros will also be saved for the next step in modernizing the Parksiedlung primary school. This should have been used to renovate the so-called “red” school building. Finally, the purchase of fire engines planned for the next few years was cancelled. First of all, the medium-term need should be determined. Around one million euros were saved in this way.

In a turnaround, the advisory committee has also placed a hiring freeze on almost all new City Hall staff positions that had been newly approved a few weeks ago. Mayor Markus Böck (CSU) had already offered three positions for consolidation that were not to be filled, and the committee has now put another 3.5 positions on hold. With a theoretical full staffing over a year, around 200,000 euros were saved. Further austerity measures did not find a majority. The FW wanted to cut the funds for the new children’s home, the SPD and the Greens the expenses for the redesign of the parking lot between the Church of St. Wilhelm and the Bürgerplatz.

The ÖDP submitted the most extensive savings application, which would have liked to gradually reduce all voluntary services to zero, such as grants to clubs, the free provision of halls and rooms or the promotion of additional jobs in schools and daycare centers. This is the only way to consolidate the administrative burden, Sebastian Riedelbauch warned, although his suggestions received no response. Böck hopes for new household structures. With this budget, the new municipal treasurer was still largely occupied with untangling old habits. For example, around three million euros of leftovers from previous budget years were dissolved and removed from the 2022/23 expenditure.

After almost 25 years without taking on new debt, Oberschleißheim has just 1.8 million euros in liabilities. The calculated 7.4 million new loans this year will most likely not be exhausted.
