Nursery Böck in Vaterstetten: award-worthy food rescue – Ebersberg

It’s a bit like one of those grab bags you loved as a kid. “I’m saved” reads the sticker holding the wrapping paper together over the contents of the green plastic box. When Gudrun Bazan removes the seal, lush green, red, and yellow shine in her direction. “Aha, tomatoes, we’ll definitely eat them first,” she says, adding that the green salad will soon end up on the family’s dining table. “And what is that?” The woman from Zorneding carefully opens a paper bag that is stuck between the radish, rocket and romanesco and looks a little helpless. “Broccoli sprouts,” says Florian Böck, “great for grilling, a little olive oil on top, perfect.” Perfect – this is what salad and vegetables look like in the green box at first glance. On the second one you can see: tiny brown dots on the banana, a slight dent on the apple, small quirks on the vegetables too. The fact that the contents of the rescue me box is not perfect – that is exactly what is special about it, and the reason why Florian Böck and his family’s nursery in Neufarn are now nominating them for the “Too good for the bin!” Federal award is.
