Nuremberg Trials – Great literary flair – District of Munich

In terms of PR, this is called good timing: The Munich author Fridolin Schley, who has just received the Tukan Prize endowed with 6,000 euros, will read the “Literature in the South” series in Pullach on Tuesday, November 9th. On the “fateful day” of German history, he will present his meticulously researched documentary novel “The Defense” in the Charlotte Dessecker library. Just a few days ago, the 45-year-old Schley was awarded the city’s prize for “New Publications by Munich Authors” for the second time since 2007 (for “wild beautiful animal”).

The drama revolves around the proceedings at the Nuremberg trials against Ernst von Weizsäcker, in which his son Richard, who later became Federal President, defends the once high-ranking Nazi official. Schley wrote “cool, precise and without any moral superiority gesture of the later born”, judged the jury. The book was also praised by the critics, the author approaches the historical figures and the big questions of good and bad, guilt and innocence, emotional and moral obligation with great literary sensitivity, so the tenor.

The Munich writer has already visited the Pullach library twice. Literature editor Cornelia Zetzsche from Bayerischer Rundfunk will moderate the event.
