A series of fires kept the Nuremberg police in suspense on Wednesday night. Around three and a half hours after midnight, a bench and an umbrella in front of a bar caught fire in the north of Nuremberg. Afterwards, the operations center was reported “every minute” more fires. Overall, the police and fire brigade found a burning car, six motorcycles and scooters that had been set on fire, and a burning waste paper container.

The fire caused damage to the vehicles, some of which burned out completely. According to the police, damage to property was “in the mid-five-digit range”. Due to the accumulation and the spatial proximity of the respective fires, one assumes intentional arson. At Schillerplatz, the police arrested an intoxicated 18-year-old that night. The young man had alleged burn injuries on his hands and belonged to a group that had previously become conspicuous in the northern part of the city.

This group is said to have thrown around signs and fuses at a construction site, according to witness reports. A patrol then gave a total of ten young adults and adolescents a place reference and took a 14-year-old into custody because of her age and handed it over to her parents. The rest of the group was allowed to move on after police said “nothing was damaged at the construction site”. The criminal police are now investigating intentional arson.
